Lehigh Acres runs on private wells, and the iron in that water paints driveways and walls orange.
Lehigh Acres is one of the largest communities in Lee County, with more than 150,000 people, and one of the youngest, with a median age in the mid thirties. Most of it is single family homes on its own lots, and a lot of those homes irrigate from private wells.
That is why Lehigh has an orange problem. The groundwater here carries iron. A U.S. Geological Survey study of the Lehigh Acres area found iron in the groundwater, in places above recommended limits, and when that water hits concrete and stucco and dries, the iron oxidizes into the orange fans and bands you see on drives and walls. Pressure alone will not move it; it takes a rust treatment.
Fewer homes here are inside an HOA, so the work is usually about the homeowner's own standard: a clean drive, a clean house and no orange. We cover the whole community, along Lee Boulevard, Homestead Road and Joel Boulevard and out to the newer streets.
